I’ve had a love hate relationship with music over my life. My parents (shout out to them) took me to guitar lessons when I was younger and I was okay. I did my ABRSM exams and it was just like any other subject at school. However, I didn’t love it yet. I hadn’t come to that place by myself where I recognized my love for music. I knew I liked music, some of my most vivid memories from childhood are car journeys with my Dad listening to classics from a range of artists like Sting, Luther Vandross, Sade, Phil Collins, Etta James and more.

Eventually the time came when it hit me how much music means to me. I realised that there are very few things in life that can completely shift the atmosphere in a room besides music. There are also very few things that can transport you to an exact time and place in the past than a song. It truly is a powerful force. Once this was clear to me I knew I had to rekindle my relationship with music. I didn’t just want to be a spectator anymore I wanted to contribute. Not only this it was also the perfect creative outlet for me and I immediately felt like a hole, that I didn’t even recognize was there, was filled.

So at the beginning of 2022 I bought a keyboard and started learning how to play. I had forgotten most of the fundamentals of music from when I was younger but some of it remained. Once I was comfortable enough playing the keys and some basic music theory I started learning how to use Studio One (DAW). Big shout out to Max Konyi, his YouTube course literally made it so easy to learn. The result: my first ever track! Getting to this point is a milestone in my eyes, feeling like I’ve come full circle in a sense. There’s still a long way to go and I want to get a lot better. However, I’m proud of my first attempt and it’s a minor accomplishment that I now have a song out there that I created.

If you’ve read this far and are curious here is the track:
